RANFORD WAY POCKET ORCHARD AND WILDLIFE GARDEN
A Proposal by Wem Area Climate Forum
As a local resident, you are probably familiar with the small grassy space backing on to the houses and gardens in Ranford Way and Kynaston Drive. The Town Council would like this area to be both an amenity for local people and a contributor to a “greener” environment in the town.

A group of volunteers from the Wem Area Climate Forum initially put together some ideas as to how this area could be made more valuable both to residents and to the natural environment and sent out a questionnaire earlier in the year to residents in and around Ranford Way to find out their thoughts on this.
We have now put together a carefully considered plan, consulted an expert landscape architect and put the idea to Wem Town Council who are supporting our plan.

The area will take the form of a pocket orchard and wildlife garden. Fruit trees and bushes could give local people the opportunity to “pick their own”, and, together with other native trees, flowers and herbs, these would benefit wildlife, improve the biodiversity of the area and help the climate. Seating areas would also make it a secluded retreat and a place for children to discover more about the natural world.

FURTHER UPDATE COMING SOON.
